PAIN → COSTS → BENEFITS
When maintaining the store gets in the way of growing it.
WooCommerce gives you control over your store. That control also brings responsibility for the software and services behind it. A move makes sense when the ongoing work no longer fits your team or your plans.
01 / THE PAIN
Every update needs attention.
WordPress, WooCommerce, themes, payment gateways, and plugins need maintenance and compatibility checks. Your developers can spend launch time tracing conflicts instead of improving the buying journey.
Count plugin renewals, development support, and staff time. If a vulnerability is exploited or checkout fails, recovery can add lost sales and customer communications to the work already on your roadmap.
Exposure depends on the software, configuration, and maintenance of your store.
03 / THE BENEFIT
Give the team room to sell.
Shopify operates the core commerce platform and hosting. Retiring the WooCommerce storefront can reduce the WordPress and PHP upkeep tied to that store, freeing capacity for merchandising and customer experience.
Your team still manages access, apps, integrations, and any WordPress site you keep.
Compare the full cost of both options, including migration, Shopify plans, apps, payment fees, and ongoing integrations. Keep urgent security updates moving while the project is planned.

WHAT MOVES / WHAT NEEDS A DECISION
Keep the data useful. Rebuild the workflows that matter.
For established WooCommerce retailers with valuable customer history, plugin-dependent workflows, and orders that need to keep moving through the business.
01 / PRODUCTS & IMAGES
A catalog customers can shop.
Map SKUs, variations, attributes, categories, and stock to the Shopify catalog. Reconnect product images, review alt text, and check representative products before the full import.
02 / CUSTOMERS & ORDERS
History that stays connected.
Match customer records and addresses, preserve consent records, and reconcile historical orders and totals. Agree how your team will access old records and how customers will sign in.
03 / METADATA & CONTENT
Give custom fields a destination.
Review product metadata, SEO titles, descriptions, pages, and WordPress content. Decide what becomes a Shopify metafield, what moves as content, and what remains in WordPress.
04 / PLUGINS & RECURRING SALES
Map the behavior behind each plugin.
Inventory subscriptions, memberships, bundles, reviews, and custom pricing. Choose the Shopify capability, app, or integration for each requirement. Confirm payment-provider dependencies before moving recurring billing.
05 / CONNECTED OPERATIONS
Test the whole order journey.
Connect the agreed warehouse, shipping, finance, and marketing systems. Trace test orders through payment, fulfillment, cancellation, and refund with the people who run those processes.
06 / SEARCH & LAUNCH
Put a plan behind the switch.
Map important URLs and supported redirects, verify analytics, and rehearse final stock and order updates. Agree the launch window, recovery decisions, and monitoring responsibilities before changing the domain.
The import route is selected for each data type. Shopify’s WooCommerce migration guide covers CSV imports and app-based routes for historical orders and reviews.

The operating role also spans four commerce storefronts and two React Native apps. That experience connects migration decisions with the teams managing stock, fulfillment, and customer service.

BEFORE YOU COMMIT
Settle the details that affect your customers.
Plugin behavior, repeat purchases, and customer access deserve a plan before data starts moving.
How much does it cost, and how long will it take?
Catalog size, data quality, custom plugins, integrations, and storefront scope determine the work. After assessment, you receive a phased proposal with fees, dependencies, and timing. Shopify plans and app costs are included in the operating-cost comparison.
Can I keep my WordPress site and existing theme?
We can plan to retain WordPress for content while moving commerce. WordPress themes and plugins do not become Shopify themes or apps; the storefront and required behavior are rebuilt or replaced. Any retained WordPress site still needs maintenance.
What happens to historical orders and product reviews?
We choose an import route for each, then check record counts, customer associations, and product links. Shopify documents third-party app options for historical orders and reviews in its WooCommerce migration guide. Open orders and returns get a separate cutover plan.
Can subscriptions and saved payment methods move?
They need a separate assessment of your subscription plugin, payment gateway, contracts, and destination app. Transfer options depend on provider support and eligibility; some customers may need to update their payment details. See Shopify’s payment migration requirements.
Will customers keep their passwords?
Encrypted passwords cannot be transferred through a customer CSV import. We plan the appropriate Shopify account access flow and customer communications before launch. Shopify’s customer import guidance explains the limitation.
How do you handle SEO and downtime?
We inventory important URLs, prepare supported redirects, check metadata and analytics, and monitor priority pages after launch. We also rehearse the final order and stock update and agree a trading window. Ranking changes and launch interruptions remain risks to plan for.
Do I need Shopify Plus, and can my agency stay involved?
The platform recommendation follows your requirements and total operating cost. I can lead the migration or own a defined part, such as data and integrations, alongside your team or agency. Decision owners and responsibilities are agreed at the start.
